DURHAM — Fire investigators now know what caused a fire in a Durham townhouse Wednesday.
The residents had emptied their fireplace ashes and placed them in a storage area. The ashes were apparently still smoldering.
Flames from that fire burned two firefighters in their faces, but they are not seriously injured.
