RALEIGH — If it seems to you there are new hotels popping up all over the Triangle, you're right. Ten new hotels are currently under construction in Wake County alone and 17 are expected by the end of the year.
The building boom is partly the result of Hurricane Fran. Many people who were forced out of their homes because of the storm stayed in hotels. Some of those people were local, others had evacuated from coastal areas.
The extra business created the highest yearly occupancy rate in the Triangle in a decade.
