Cumberland County Girl Dead, Mother Charged With Murder

e-mail print friendly

Sunday morning Sheriff's officers arrived at a Cumberland County home to find the body of 6-year-old Amber Campbell.

Hours later, the girl's mother Donna Campbell is charged with first degree murder.

Cumberland County Sheriff "Moose" Butler said Amber Campbell was killed by being struck in the head with a blunt object.

Allegedly, Campbell had asked her daughter to get dressed for church, and when Amber Campbell didn't follow instructions, Donna Campbell lost control and hit her daughter in the head with an alcohol decanter.

Campbell and her daughter lived together on Paddlewheel Drive. It's an area that neighbors say is a close-knit group where all the children played together.

Kathy Lukianczyk's children were part of that group.

Lucianczyk also said she has babysat on occasion for the suspect.

Lucianczyk said she didn't understand how someone could hurt her own children, and also remembered Amber Campbell as a sweet little girl who was popular in the neighborhood.

Neighbors say the night before the 6-year-old's body was found, they had seen Sheriff's cars at the house.

But the Sheriff's office says that is not related to the death.

Meanwhile, some members of this neighborhood say it will be hard to get over something this tragic happening in their neighborhood.

Wisdom Martin reporting.
