Students Evacuated After Fire at Durham Middle...

Posted January 10, 1997

— Fire broke out after 11 a.m. Friday at Carrington Middle School in northern Durham.

About 1,100 middle school students attent the school. Sources say that all students were evacuated, but firefighters had the fire completely under control within 90 minutes. The Durham Fire Marshal says he thinks the fire started with an audio tape player in the school's first floor gymnasium.

No one was in the gym when the fire started and there were no injuries reported.

The school is located off U.S. 501.
