Ben Winegarden was charged with two felonies: illegal voting andproviding false information on his voter registration card. Winegardenregistered to vote during an alternative music concert,Lollapalooza, in Rockingham. Hegave his correct name but listed his birth year as 1956.
The boy's father, Jerome Winegarden, also was charged with being anaccessory after the fact of voter fraud, a felony, and a misdemeanorcharge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is due to appearin court Feb. 3.
District Attorney Jim Hardin has said that, given the state'ssentencing rules, it is unlike that either father or son will serve any jail time if convicted.
