FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville woman is in stable condition at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, recovering from an unusual gunshot wound. Police say Ruth Stump was hit in the hip by a bullet when someone fired shots at the van she was traveling in.
One of the bullets ripped through the van, hitting her as she sat in the back seat. The driver stopped at a supermarket about a mile from the crime scene and called for help.
Police are investigating the incident.
