RALEIGH — The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that at least two people died in accidents on state roads over the New Year's holiday, and that at least one of them was alcohol-related.
Total traffic figures have also been tallied for all of 1996. Troopers say 1,434 people died on N.C. roads last year. That's down by nine from 1995's total of 1,443 fatalities.
