Posted December 31, 1996
FAYETTEVILLE — An armed robbery suspect is hospitalized after a run-in with a Fort Bragg M.P.
The soldier was off-duty when he pulled up to an Automated Teller Machine at Morganton and Reilly Roads in Fayetteville. He says he fears for his safety, and asked not to be identified.
He was approached at the ATM by the suspect who was brandishing a handgun. The soldier says he ducked down in his car and attempted to drive away, but could not maneuver the vehicle. He says he then opened fire, hitting the would-be robber in the neck.
Dedric Stevens, who is in stable condition, faces several possible charges, including armed robbery.
