Lawsuit Charges Walmart With Discrimination
Posted December 17, 1996
RALEIGH — A Wake County woman is bringing a lawsuit against Walmart charging the retail outlet with racial discrimination.
Felicia Gray-Watson says her supervisors used racially offensive language during a conversation with her on November 13, 1996. She says her manager repeatedly used the word 'slave' and implied that that was her role within the company.
Walmart says it does not tolerate this type of behavior, and that an extensive investigation of this incident led to the firing of the supervisor in question. Other disciplinary action was taken with other employees involved.
Walmart says it feels it has acted properly. The company will, however, have to go to court to answer the charges made in the lawsuit
