Accident Ties Up Traffic on Capital Blvd

WAKE FOREST — There was at least one serious injury in a Friday afternoon accident that tied up traffic for hours near Wake Forest. As a result, traffic on Highway 1 in the Mini-City area was backed up more than usual during rush hour.
Investigators say a collision between a dump truck and a tractor-trailer left one person pinned underneath the wreckage at about 4 p.m. Commuters were asked to avoid Capital Blvd. from Mini-City north, but traffic was backed up for miles by 6 p.m. By that time, troopers had closed the northbound lanes.
It took rescue workers more than an hour to free one of the victims. That person was flown by Air-Care helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
