Fayetteville Bashed by < em > Rolling Stone < /em > Story

FAYETTEVILLE — A well known writer has written afictional story, part of which appears in the latest issue ofRollingStonemagazine that strikes hard at Fayetteville.

The story reportedly portrays Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and the South ingeneral as backward and dangerous. In one part, for instance, writer TomWolfe refers to the South as "skinhead country".

The magazine, which displays a devilish portrait of basketballsuperstar Dennis Rodman on the cover, is selling briskly. Ofparticular concern in Fayetteville is the story inside called"Ambush at Fort Bragg", which paints a grim picture of the military city.

Bragg Blvd. is refered to as "a hellish, nightmare alley" and FortBragg soldiers are called "lords of testosterone".

Robert Flack has lived in Fayetteville most of his life. He sayseveryone should keep in mind that the story is fictional.

Tom Wolfe has spent some time in the Fayetteville area and has familyin the region.
