The Rush Is On At RDU

Posted November 27, 1996

— Time has run out for travelers who wanted to avoid crowds at the airport. Over 200,000 people are expected to pass through RDU International airport between now and Sunday. That's 10 percent more than last years traffic.

If you still haven't left, or have a return trip to deal with, there are still some things you can do to avoid excessive hassles. Traveler Lorie Parient (pictured below, right) says she did okay.

At the new RDU park-and-ride lot parking spaces are a hot commodity. By 12:30 Wednesday nearly 1,200 of the 1,500 spaces were filled. Traveler Colin Smith (pictured at right) says he got lucky.

Inside the airport, travelers anticipating big crowds are also arriving well ahead of schedule. Ravina Mulchandani (Left, in photo at left) says she arrived so early she faced hours of boredom.

Mulchandani, despite her boredom, was luckier than many. As always, some will miss their flights altogether.
