Charlotte Jury Considering Landmark Decision
Posted November 26, 1996
CHARLOTTE — A high-profile businessman may learn his fate sometime Tuesday. A Charlotte jury is considering a landmark decision in the murder trial of John Hayes.
Hayes admits to killing his wife with a baseball bat, but says he is a victim of male spousal abuse. His lawyers say Hayes' wife drove him to kill her after years of abuse.
This is one of the state's first cases where the attorneys claim a murder was committed in self-defense involving male spousal abuse.
