BRUNSWICK — Jury selection for a murder trial in Columbus County was sidetracked when a potential juror allegedly showed up drunk for the selection process.
The judge found Carol Ann Gathers in contempt last week after fellow jury applicants complained she smelled of alcohol. Authorities say a breath test showed Gathers came to court with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
She reportedly told a bailiff she had been celebrating her birthday.
