Train Jumps Tracks in Fayetteville
Posted November 12, 1996
FAYETTEVILLE — Rail passengers whose route takes them through Fayetteville are finding their itinerary changed. Six freight cars jumped the tracks in Fayetteville last night, blocking the right-of-way. Passengers are being linked by bus so they can continue their train trips.
The mishap occurred about 10 p.m. in a switching area.
Initially, Fayetteville police had to close traffic in a four-block area, including Rowan Street Bridge and nearby roads, but all of those avenues are now open.
No one was hurt in the derailment.
