<b>RALEIGH</b> — North Carolina State University has plansto build a scaled-down slaughterhouse for teaching and research. Theschool wants to build the facility at its school of veterinary medicine,located just off Blue Ridge Road.

At least one environmental group is worried about possible odor andwaste disposal, but school officials say it won't be a problem because ofthe facility's small size.

They hope the slaughterhouse will be operational by late 1998.
