CHAPEL HILL — University of North Carolina at ChapelHill police have issued a statement saying that 18-year-old MatthewBurnore's death was a suicide.
A UNC-CH freshman, Burnore was found lying on the ground after hetoppled from a third-floor balcony in Ehringhaus Residence Hall. Anotherstudent placed an emergency 9-1-1 call just before 9 a.m. Monday. Thatstudent also lives in the Ehringhaus dormitory, a newer high-rise onSouth Campus.
Police spent most of Monday afternoon interviewing other studentsin the dorm. They say they formed their conclusion based on thoseinterviews and finding a suicide note in Burnore's room.
Police have said there was no evidence drugs or alcohol were a factor.
