Three Children Die in Fire

RALEIGH — National Fire Prevention Week had a verysad ending for a Raleigh family early Saturday morning. Three childrendied in a house fire.

A house on Garner Road was fully engulfed in flames as fire crewsarrived just after midnight. The fire began in a downstairs bedroom.There is no word on what started the blaze.

Two children were taken by medical helicopterto UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill; the other was taken to WakeMedical Center. The children -- aged 3, 4 and 11 -- died shortly aftertheir arrivals at the facilities.

Three other children in the house -- aged 15, 10 and 19 months-- managed to escape unharmed. According to fire officials, no adult wasin the house when the fire broke out.

Officals say no smoke detectors were found in thewoodframe house.

Names of victims and survivors have not been released.
