Chapel Hill School Board Reaches Make-Up Day Consensus

Posted October 4, 1996

— It took the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board four weeks to decide when teachers and students will have to make-up three days missed after Hurricane Fran.

Thursday night, the board selected Friday, October 25, Tuesday, January 21 and Monday, May 26. With those dates, the board saved teachers and students from having to attend on the day before Thanksgiving, which is scheduled as a student-free workday. It also spared them from having to attend with throngs of voters on Election Day.

The board heard arguments and suggestions from teachers and parents who didn't want to see workdays and potential family vacation time disrupted.
