This Winter's Fuel is Seasoning at Umstead Park

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — The aftermath of Hurricane Fran is dealinga good hand to the Warmth for Wake program.

Inmates from the Department of Correction have been cutting hundreds oftrees and hauling the cut wood to the Raleigh yard waste location. Downedtrees in Durham and Umstead Park are being stored there until cold weatherarrives.

When the wood is needed to help people keep warm this winter, volunteers won't have to cut and split the wood, as they usually do. Theywill simply have to load and deliver it.

And there will undoubtedly be no shortage.
