This Winter's Fuel is Seasoning at Umstead Park

RALEIGH — The aftermath of Hurricane Fran is dealing a good hand to the Warmth for Wake program.
Inmates from the Department of Correction have been cutting hundreds of trees and hauling the cut wood to the Raleigh yard waste location. Downed trees in Durham and Umstead Park are being stored there until cold weather arrives.
When the wood is needed to help people keep warm this winter, volunteers won't have to cut and split the wood, as they usually do. They will simply have to load and deliver it.
And there will undoubtedly be no shortage.
