CHAPEL HILL — A reported standoff in Chapel Hill cameto an end just hours after it started when police discovered that therewas no hostage situation inside the house when they arrived..
The incident occurred in the Laurel Ridge apartment complex aftersomeone called 9-1-1, then hung up. The 9-1-1 operator returned the calland reported that the woman who answered the telephone sounded distressed.
Police arrive at the scene and found a woman and child outside.
James Burnette, 28, was inside with a shotgun and rifle, but police sayhe never held the woman and boy at gunpoint, nor was there ever a hostagesituation, as was reported earlier.
Burnette will not be charged.
