Durham Death Sets Unwelcome Record
Posted October 2, 1996
DURHAM — A shooting death Tuesday in Durham has set a new statistical record the city would just as soon not have achieved.
Investigators say Robert Tucker, Jr. became the 36th murder victim in Durham this year. He was shot in the head during an apparent argument with another man.
Witnesses say the suspect, 54-year-old Curtis Calvin, severed Tucker's ear with a knife, then shot him.
Curtis is now in a Durham County jail.
