UNC Remembers Students, Faculty

CHAPEL HILL — It has been four months since a fraternity house fire at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill left five dead on graduation day. Wednesday, for the first time, all UNC students were invited to a memorial service for those, and for other students, faculty and staff members who passed away in the past year.
There was a special focus on the five who died in the Phi Gamma Delta house on Mothers' Day, although many students present Wednesday were not on campus at that time.
Organizers of the service say they hope this will help students to deal with the May tragedy.
Many students who attended said they thought it would.
Chapel Hill Fire Chief Dan Jones says he won't be able to personally put the tragedy to rest until every fraternity and sorority house has sprinkler systems installed.
Many felt Wednesday's ceremony helped to bring closure to the painful experience.
