Sorority Writes To Capitol Hill About Future Tire Recalls

Posted Updated

WILSON, N.C. — Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have a lot on their minds right now, and some women in Wilson are giving them one more thing to consider.

Members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority dropped off more than 1,000 letters Friday morning, asking lawmakers to be fair when considering more tire recalls. The women are concerned that Firestone, Wilson County's largest employer, will be hurt if another recall is issued.

"If we were going to write letters, we really wanted to make a showing, so we set our goal at 1,000, and I am happy to say that we have in excess of 1,000 letters," said Mary Peppers of Delta Signa Theta.

Almost all of the letters came from church members in east Wilson. The Firestone plant employs more than 2,000 people from several counties.
