The artistic animal was ripped right off its concrete slab in front of N.C. State's Bell Tower early Saturday morning. Police quickly recovered the wolf and arrested 26-year-old Geoffrey Aumann of Henderson for taking it.
Arts enthusiasts like Peggy Lyle expected the dozens of wolves across the city would be subject to some vandalism.
"You know there is going to be some people that do that sort of thing, but overall, I think the vast majority of the people are going to take a great deal of pride in this type of art," she said.
The Raleigh Arts Commission, which is putting the wolves all over town, says the ones left outside are bolted down to concrete blocks. It discourages anyone from taking them because once the exhibit ends, the wolves will be auctioned off for charity.
