NCDOT To Shift I-40 Traffic In Durham And Wake Counties
Posted September 24, 2001
RALEIGH — The N.C. Department of Transportation reminds drivers that it is shifting traffic on Interstate 40 from the I-540 Interchange to N.C. 147. The new traffic pattern will remain in place for several months.
Traffic will be moved to the inside lanes of I-40. The department will begin work in the westbound lanes, weather permitting.
The traffic shift is necessary to install concrete median barriers as part of a project to widen 2.9 miles of I-40.
To help minimize impacts to motorists, the department is completing most of the work at night.
Changeable message signs and public information efforts will inform motorists of construction information.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, STAY ALERT and obey the posted speed limit in the work zone.
