CLAYTON — Local police officers laid to rest one of their own on Tuesday.
Funeral services were held for murdered Clayton police officer Lt. Monica Carey. Carey died Friday during a drug bust when she was struck by a car driven by Omar Garcia Fernandez.
Fernandez was shot and killed by officers.
Carey's funeral was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Wilmington. A number of officers from across the state attended the services.
