Panthers Pleased With NFL's Decision to Call Games

Posted Updated

CHARLOTTE — John Kasay needed only to look up at the Charlotte's few tall buildings to understand why the N.F.L. should not play this weekend.

Kasay was in on a pair of conference calls with his peers today, and those calls were a factor in the league's decision to call off action on Sunday and Monday in the wake of terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

Kasay says player representatives listened quietly as the representatives from New York's two teams talked about how difficult it would be to play on Sunday. He says all the New York players can see is dust and smoke where the World Trade Center used to be. He says looking at Charlotte's skyline has a profound impact.

The Panthers would have played their home opener Sunday against the New England Patriots. Owner Jerry Richardson urged all ticketholders to wait patiently for the league and the team to figure out how the contest will be handled.
