The September 17th issue will list professor
Stanley Hauerwas
as America's best theologian. Hauerwas is known for his stances on medical ethics, and most recently, his opposition to embryonic stem cell research.
He said he was surprised by Time's inclusion of theologians on the list.
"I was very pleased that they thought that theologians might be doing something important and that was wonderful," he said.
Hauerwas believes Christians should be more active in using their faith to effect moral change in America and around the world. Mike Kryzewski was also selected by the magazine as the best college basketball coach in America.
