Wake Officials: Shooting Suspect Shoots Self

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — A woman and man who were shot early Sunday morning are recovering at WakeMed.

The Wake County Sheriff's Department received a call at 4:46 a.m. reporting two gunshots on Lake Wheeler Road. When they arrived six minutes later, deputies forced entry into the residence and found the victims, Hope Johnson Buffaloe, 31, and Billy Presley Dean, 30, in the kitchen.

Officials say Dean was shot first. Buffaloe heard the gunshot and came in the kitchen and was also shot, according to the sheriff's department.

The suspect, John Phillip Bullock, 32, drove away in a red Corvette. Buffaloe was able to provide police with his name, address, and a description of the car, according to the sheriff's department.

"The victims identified the suspect and apparently it is a past acquaintance of one of the individuals in the residence. It seems he entered the residence and shot the two victims," Lt. W.C. Martin, of the Wake County Sheriff's Department, said.

The sheriff's department called the Garner Police Department, who went to the suspect's residence.

The officers knocked on the door several times and called without response, according to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff's department took out a warrant for Bullock's arrest and a search warrant and returned to the residence and entered, where they found Bullock dead on his couch with a gun shot wound to the right side of his head, according to the sheriff's department.
