CARY — CSX crews will be in Cary Friday morning, working to move several cars of a southbound freight train that derailed Thursday.
The derailment happened at the MacArthur Park subdivision on Davis Drive around 7 p.m. No injuries or major damage were been reported.
The derailed cars reportedly contain a powder associated with concrete and remained upright after jumping off the tracks. Cary police remained at the scene at 8:45 p.m.
The train runs less than 10 miles per hour beween Durham and Apex.
At one time, the stretch of track was looked at by the N.C. Department of Transportation for high-speed rail service, but it is not the same track the Triangle Transit Authority is looking at for their commuter service between Raleigh and Durham.
