Police were called at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning when a caller reported seeing five U-Haul trucks at Nortel's Innovation Drive facility near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Christina Bell, an off-duty security guard, arrived at Nortel at about the same time as the 911 call was placed, to bring some personal items for her sister, Elmonzia Blatcher, who is also a security guard for Nortel. She was accompanied by Blatcher's son.
The three saw the U-Hauls and were put in one of the trucks and taken from the location by gunpoint, according to the Cary Police Department.
They were taken to Durham, where they were safely released behind an employment agency, and called 911.
Cary police, while responding to the call about the U-Hauls at Nortel, saw a U-Haul truck and stopped the driver for questioning, but found no reason to detain him and let him go.
Cary police later saw a car leaving the area around Nortel with two occupants. They stopped the car and recognized the driver as the driver of the U-Haul they had stopped earlier, according to the Cary Police Department. Both men were taken in for questioning and subsequently arrested.
