DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County authorities say a man who is supposed to be stopping fires is one who has been setting them.

Harold Nelson Oakley III, a fireman with the Bahama Volunteer Fire Department, was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of burning with intent to damage property.

Oakley is accused of setting several fires to woodland property along State Forestry Road and Hampton Road on June 1. He is also charged with similar crimes in Person County.

Jeffrey Robert Dugan, Oakley's friend, was also arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Both men have been released from custody on $5,000 bond.
