There were numerous reports of power lines and trees down in Johnston and Harnett counties around 6:30 p.m., authorities said.
In Harnett County there were 3,600 outages and in Johnston County there were 1,200 at the height of the storm. By 10 p.m. the outages were down to 1,376 in Harnett County and fewer than a dozen in Johnston County.
According to Johnston County authorities, a gas station in Benson had its canopy blown off. There were power lines down near Market Street in Benson and the roof on the National Guard Armory in Benson has been damaged.
In Dunn, the fire chief reported that most damage was in the northwest part of the town near North Clinton Avenue where nearly 20 homes suffered some damage and some power lines were down.
The fire chief also reported that Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital was running on backup generators after power was knocked out there.
Some small trees were reported down on Interstate 95 near mile marker 81.
