New Cary Indoor Pool Scheduled To Break Ground

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Wake County's first new public pool in two decades is about to break ground.

Construction will begin on the Triangle Aquatic Center next Saturday behind Cary Towne Center. The public swim facility is funded by private donations through a non-profit group, and it will feature three pools and spectator seating for swim meets.

Swimmers said Wake County is in a year-round pool drought.

"I think a lot of teams are in the same boat as we are in," said Brian Gill with the Raleigh Swimming Association. "The lack of pool space makes scheduling difficult."

The Triangle Aquatic Center, or TAC, hopes to open in the fall of 2007. The Raleigh Swimming Association, Wake County Public Schools, and Cardinal Gibbons High School have already agreed to lease pool space.
