SANFORD, N.C. — A 40-year-old New York man shot outside a Sanford hotel on Tuesday had been wanted in connection with at least two armed robberies, authorities said Tuesday.

Police said Darryl Banks was shot outside the EconoLodge off North Horner Boulevard, where he had been staying as a guest.

He was wanted for allegedly robbing the BB&T at 200 N. Horne Blvd. in Sanford on Monday and was also wanted in Durham for armed robbery and kidnapping.

Investigators arrested Sean Prather and charged him with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping because he allegedly held a hotel maid hostage for a short period of time.

Authorities said they believe the two men had some type of dispute after the bank robbery, but have not said whether Prather was involved in the bank robbery.

Two other people, Vonda Zuna Banks Russell, 34, of Durham, and LaShawne Horne, 32, of Durham, were also arrested for their alleged involved in the robbery, police said.
