ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Carolina Crossroads' first outdoor concert is scheduled for Saturday, and work at the concert site is going on non-stop to get the facilities ready.

This weekend, country music superstars Big & Rich will be in Roanoke Rapids. Folding chairs for 20,000 people are being placed at the site as well as huge tents that will provide concertgoers with shade. There will also be a rock-climbing simulator and NASCAR simulator.

Michael Dunlow of Carolina Crossroads said a lot of work has been done, but there is much to do.

"We'd like to think we are going overboard. If you need one, we've got two of them," Dunlow said.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's show. They range in price from $35 to $50.

Big & Rich are not the first big names to perform at Carolina Crossroads. Dolly Parton joined her brother, Randy, at the project's groundbreaking ceremony last year.

Several other country stars are planning a trip to Halifax County. Hank Williams Jr. and Gretchen Wilson are scheduled to perform later this year.
