State Legislators To Continue Debate On Budget Proposal

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Legislators are expected to discuss the state's budget proposal on Wednesday.

As the budget deal continues to evolve, legislators had to pass a bill to keep the government running for at least another month while the current numbers continue to be crunched.

House leaders acknowledged they did not have the votes to pass the plan that would raise the sales tax by a penny, so they agreed to rework it again.

Another tax proposal would increase the sales tax by a half-cent, remove the earned income tax credit and increase the income tax for the wealthy. A vote on that plan will not come until next week.
