RALEIGH — Just when you thought the Jimmy V Classic could not get any bigger, the celebrity golf tournament has added a second competition.
Next year, it will launch the Jimmy V Celebrity Junior Golf Classic.
Like the original tournament named after late N.C. State coach Jim Valvano, all proceeds from the junior Classic will go towards cancer research.
"It's such a first-class event, but now we want to expand it, and I know that Jimmy would be delighted because he loved the youngsters and loved the young kids," said Tournament Co-Chair Dick Vitale.
Organizers say the second Jimmy V event will also take place at Cary's Preston Wood Country Club. But unlike the adult Classic, the junior tournament will be in June, not August.
