VANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Some local pastors in Vance County say a religious roadside campaign has not made the highways more heavenly.
People are talking about several billboards that have thought-provoking, religious messages. The billboards say the thoughts come from God. Some pastors applaud the effort, but question the spirit of the messages.
"They seem to tap into some of the judgment, some of the scorekeeping God," says Rev. Rick Brand of First Presbyterian Church. "There's the one around here that says, 'Don't make me come down there' with a kind of threatening attitude."
WRAL tried to contact the company that owns the billboards to find out who put the signs up and how many there are. No one at Fairway Outdoor Advertising was available for comment.
