DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County health officials are expanding their search for lead in tap water.
A child who used to live at the Penrith Apartment complex in Durham developed lead poisoning. Samples show some apartments may have too much lead in the tap water.
Now, the health department wants to test homes built before 1988 within a quarter of a mile from the complex.
Those homes are more likely to have plumbing with lead components.
