Concord Teacher Faces Additional Charge of Sex With Student

CONCORD, N.C. — A former Concord teacher faces more charges in connection with allegedly having sex with a male student.

Last week, Janet Klatt, 44, of Charlotte, was arrested in Raleigh for allegedly having sex with the student while on an overnight field trip last month. She was charged with sexual activity between a school personnel member and a student, a felony offense.

The latest charge, Concord police said, stems from an incident that occurred earlier this month with the same student in the parking lot of a Concord restaurant.

Klatt was arrested again on Tuesday and later released on a $5,000 secured bond. Under the terms of her release, she is not to have any contact with the victim.

A native of Zimbabwe, Klatt was a world history teacher at a private school in Concord called The Cannon School. School officials have said she no longer teaches at the school, but would not say whether she resigned or was fired.
