A Goldsboro teenager was charged with murder after authorities say he shot another teen in a car.

John Paul Setliff, 17, of Freemont, was shot while sitting in a vehicle at about 2:35 a.m. Monday, Wayne County sheriff's officials said.

Setliff was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound, but later died.

Sheriff's officials said that four teens were on Albert Drive off Perkins Road when someone fired a handgun and a bullet hit Setliff.

Sheriff's officials said that the gun was found and that alcohol and drugs were involved.

Timothy W. Alston, 17, of White Oak Road, Goldsboro was charged with murder and is being held without bond, sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's officials said that Setliff lived with his parents and attended C.B. Aycock High School in Pikeville.

Alston's first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in Wayne District Court.
