Lawmaker Wants To Mandate Background Checks For UNC Enrollees

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Criminal background checks could be required of any incoming University of North Carolina student if one lawmaker gets his way.

Sen. Neal Hunt filed a bill requiring fingerprinting and checks for any incoming student in the UNC system. This comes after the homicides of two UNC-Wilmington female students. The accused killers were also students.

Police said both suspects had criminal records but lied on their college applications.
