Carlton Wrencher worked at Union Pines High School in Moore County as an attendance officer and girls' basketball coach. Now, he's been arrested on drug and alcohol charges.
Investigators said Wrencher tried to give both alcohol and drugs to a 16-year-old girl. He also allegedly had marijuana on school grounds.
Moore County school officials have fired Wrencher. They won't discuss the case, calling it a personnel matter.
"As a parent, they're just lucky it wasn't my daughter that it happened to," said Allen Norman, the parent of a ninth-grader at the school. "I let them know that."
Wrencher's neighbors were surprised.
"It was just shocking, because it's not in his character," said neighbor Christine Wilburn.
Wrencher made bond the same day he was arrested. He has a court date scheduled for next week.
