Good Start: Lenovo Rolls Out New Laptops to Positive Reviews

Posted Updated

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Lenovo is bolstering its lineup of laptop computers with a series of new models today. And the initial reviews appear to be positive.

Joining the Lenovo product line is the Z61M, and Cisco Cheng,

, is impressed.

"Revamped with faster Intel Core Duo components, it's a powerful desktop-replacement notebook that can tackle your toughest tasks," Chen wrote.

"The Z61m has abundant features, beginning with the built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam, which is extremely handy for video chat software such as Skype and MSN Messenger," he added.

Lenovo, which wrapped up its acquisition of IBM's ThinkPad laptop and PC division one year ago, is also revamping its R60 laptops with new features.

Michelle Thatcher,

, gave the R60 a thumbs' up.

"With the ThinkPad R60, Lenovo loaded up the solid R-series case with new parts, such as Intel's newest Core Duo processors, fast 667MHz RAM, and ATI's latest Mobility Radeon graphics chips. The result is a well-made laptop with enough oomph to tackle any basic business task," she said.

Notebook Review

points out the R60 enables users to enhance the lower-priced R50 series.

"The ThinkPad R50 series has always been popular as a budget version of the ThinkPad thin-and-light T series and is especially geared towards education and small business customers, in other words those that are sensitive to price but still want a well built portable notebook with enterprise features," the publication said.

"Now the R60 will give those price conscious customers the ability to configure a Core Duo ThinkPad R-series notebook. The R60 even offers some of the higher-end features of the T60 such as built in WWAN (EV-DO via Verizon), BlueTooth and dedicated ATI graphics card."

Lenovo is moving its headquarters to North Carolina, and much of its research and design work for laptops and desktop machines is done in the Triangle.
