<b>WAKE COUNTY, N.C.</b> — A Wake County Sheriff's deputy was killed in an off-duty accident Saturday evening.

Deputy John McClain was traveling east on Ravenridge Road when he lost control of the motorcycle he was operating, crossed the center line and struck a road sign, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said high speed may have been a factor, but did not think alcohol was involved.
