Fort Bragg Soldiers To Head West To Provide Public Affairs Support

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG — A small group of Fort Bragg soldiers is heading to the wildfires out west.

On Tuesday, eight members of the 49th Public Affairs Detachment packed up for their trip. They plan to leave on Wednesday.

The soldiers will go through firefighting training, but their main mission will be providing public affairs support to soldiers from Fort Lewis, Washington.

"The 82nd [Airborne] is all over the world, and it feels good to be going to the heart of America, to be on the front lines and doing what America asked us to do. In this case, it's fighting fires," says soldier Jimmie Cummings.

The soldiers will be gone for up to 30 days.
