Heavy Rains Hit Central North Carolina Saturday Night

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Anyone trying to to do anything outdoors Saturday had a tough time staying dry as thunderstorms peppered the area.

Fayetteville had heavy rains, and some areas even had flooding. Cars splashed through the intersection of Carson and Santa Fe streets after the water rose. There were no reports of serious problems related to the flooding.

Tents toppled, rain poured, and everyone took cover at a back-to-school party in Fayetteville. The pep rally for Westover Middle and Senior High Schools had barely begun Saturday morning when skies turned ominous. The assembled tried to wait out the storm, but the dark clouds never really cleared, so the rally was canceled.

The 3rd annual Walk for V was a washout. Organizers with the Jimmy V Foundation canceled Saturday night's fundraiser after hearing the weather reports. A make-up date has not been announced.
